5S Journey

Our 5S journey at Padma Narasimhan ITI

The National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT)has introduced a grading system to improve the functioning of ITIs.
We understood that introduction of 5S concept will help us in improving the grade. With the help of Mr Murugan Consultant we started the journey in February 2019.

Vision

To become a model Institute in 5S among the Industrial Training Institutes in Tamil Nadu.

  • Students to acquire one more extra skill of 5S concept

Special Features

The entire work of 5S implementation was done by the students under the guidance of teachers. No work was out sourced to external agencies.

– Creating 37 shadow boards and tool boards
– Painting of gangways and desks
– Warning signals and signage
– Labels, Zebra painting and name plates
– Established 27 Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs)
– Created many items from waste (discarded items given by TTK Industries) Creating from waste to wealth is another strength
– 5S is sustained by students and teachers

The Quality Circle Forum of India Chennai chapter gave a Platinum Award to Padma Narasimhan ITI for incorporating 5S concepts. The award was given in their 28 th convention at Chennai on the 8 th September2019 by Sri.N.Vishnuvardhana Rao Head Operations India Japan Lighting Ltd and Ms Gowri Kailasam President Rane Ltd. Dr Shanthi Ranganathan and Kausalya Veeravalli, Trustees received the award.
